Typhoid Fever

Numerous studies from various parts of India on the various aspects of typhoid fever have been published during the last 20 years. In going through the published Indian literature, one finds that not many cases have been reported before 1920. In the past, owing to lack of laboratory facilities in India, the diagnosis of enteric fever was mainly based on clinical evidence, but the only positive criteria for diagnosis of these diseases should be isolation of the causative organism from the blood. En the absence of facilities for doing blood culture, positive widal reac ion of the blood in increasing titre and particularly above 1 in
